Written in PyGTK, OpenShot Video Editor is a non-linear video editing application. The software supports multiple audio / video / image tracks and allows the use of transitions and effects (audio and video) within a clear and pleasant interface that primarily targets beginners but can also enable more experienced users to work efficiently. The software is capable of opening almost all SD and HD video formats without any further manipulation and also allows exporting your edit in nearly all video formats.
Another advantage is that the stable 2.4 version is cross-platform and enables free video editing under GNU/Linux, Windows© and Apple©.
Despite all the qualities of OpenShot, it may be necessary to convert the AVCHD format which proves to be very demanding on small configurations (a single-core CPU for example and an older graphics card). OpenShot’s companion for this preparation work is called HandBrake, which proves to be intuitive as well.
